Philothée O'Neddy, aka Théophile Dondey (1811-75), a co-founder of the avant-Romanticist Bozingo group, published his ground-breaking collection Fire & Flame in 1833, a foundational text for avant-garde verse. Then he suddenly disappeared from the avant-garde community, continuing to write but refusing to publish poetry again until “there are no more bourgeoisie.” Though largely forgotten, he retained a tiny but ardent following among the avant-garde; late in life he made connections with young poets of the Parnassian network and mentored a few, including the two published alongside him here.
