POEMS ABOUT – by AG Davis

Poems About begins and ends with glossolalia, speaking in tongues, anything but about — bookends of zaum, between which a semantic garden grows across the pages, half-lyrical and half-feral, all around the reader. Or else, the book is strewn with precarious, floating islands of semantic and subjective clarity, jutting above the dark and shifting surface of an ocean of language, beneath which the waters of the chthonic unconscious warp, dissolve, and generate. The glossolaliac impulse pulses throughout, making orthography fluid and playful, blooming neologisms. Transhumanist holographs are stirred into the primal, atavistic expressionism plumbed by Trakl and Papasquiaro, an internal landscape of intelligent, apocalyptic artifice. Identity and author-ity deliquesce in fragmentation, self-distancing, the states of melting and disjoining. What the poem’s about vanishes before the glance can catch it; in its wake, Davis casts his Poems About, about, about...
