From the Pamphlet:

"No, all zines are not equal – just as no two individuals are equal. Yet in a healthy micropress culture, "good" & "bad" publications are thus definitively and structurally relativized; such judgements remain personal, or explicitly bound to affinity (including an affinity for well-crafted zines or content), and can only be related either to the tastes of the reader, or the individual goals of the zinester. Recall that the word "quality" need not imply hierarchy; it can also be a synonym for "attribute": that which makes one unique. I'm suggesting a sense of the word somewhere in between.
Now I want to point out how this relates to the trade & gift economy which I see as absolutely central to micropress, and which I see markedly less of now than a decade ago. It is zine trading which makes this antinomian Levelling action of zines embodied & structural, not merely theoretical or ideological. It's true that, with this anti-professional model, some people can afford to give & trade more than others, and at some times more than at others; yet this is generally – or it should be – understood, with trades not measured in cash value or page counts but as "each according to their capacity, to each according to their need"; and this is where "gift" comes in."
