Rêvenance: A  Zine of Hauntings From Underground Histories is the flagship journal of the Revenant Editions series, dedicated to the forgotten or untold histories of 19th Century avant-garde and other countercultures. It includes essays, translations, and many experimental forms of historical writing and research that connect those traditions to continuing radical communities today.

Main themes in Issue #9: Anti-Racism, The African Diaspora, The Druyfus Affair, French Decadence & Symbolism, Diverse Translation Approaches, Feminist Hermeticism, the Fin-de-siècle Blood-drinking craze, Paris Dada.

Assembled and delayed by the Covid pandemic, the rise of the BLM movement, the fascist insurrection on Jan. 6 & the return of Neo-Lib imperialism while the fascists regroup, this issue responds with a mini-feature on the anti-racist tradition and African diaspora, as well as a mini-feature on the Symbolists’ attacks on antisemitism & homophobia. The Symbolists’ decadent strain provides a minor theme on blood-drinking, while the arch-Decadent Courrière issues a feminist indictment of the father of Psychology. She and her fellow female avant-gardist Hillel-Erlanger join the feminist Esquiros and the African-American magus Randolph to represent the occult. More than usual is originally written in English this issue, including recent work by Bennett, Foley, and Lastname. We have two instances of poems presented in multiple languages and translations, for your multiplied delight. The issue closes with a triptych of Dada.
